Adolph Sutro saw San Francisco for the first time in 1850 when he sailed through the Golden Gate on the steamer California. When he returned to the city in 1879 as a wealthy man, he used much of that wealth to enrich the lives of San Francisco's working class by developing the Lands End area.

Explore the rich history of Lands End with our interactive Torch Book! Use the attached torch to illuminate images of the Lands End area as it used to be.
